************************************************************************************************************** Our annual Ride for the Bear 2009 took place on Saturday April 25. Thanks to all who participated and made this a successful Ride. With your help, we raised in excess of $11,000 to help special kids.
This was the first year that our Louisiana Chapter hosted their Ride for the Bear. Our Texas and Louisiana riders met at the end of the Ride at Joe Pedigo City Park in Livingston. Upon their arrival, the Louisiana Riders received a standing ovation from the Texas Riders. They then shared a meal together catered by Catfish on Wheels. We also had a live auction.
Texas specific information will be shown below in RED and Louisiana specific information will be shown in BLUE.
Joe and Kim Walshak coordinated the Texas ride this year and Joe also served as our auctioneer once again. Starbucks provided coffee and hot chocolate at the Texas registration. The Louisiana ride was a joint effort by Lisa Maricle (District Coordinator), Laurie Smith and Cherice Click.
We had a photographer riding with the Texas riders this year in a "little red Smart Car". Charles Rash took photographs as well as movies. As soon as they are available, he will provide a link that we will post so that you will be able to see them all.

Ride for the Bear 2008 took place on Saturday April 12, 2008 and was a record setting event. We are still gathering up pictures so if you have any to share, please send to macbrer55@aim.com. We've added a few but we need more!!
Registration was at the WAL*MART Supercenter parking lot in Porter TX beginning at 8:AM. STARBUCKS was there to provide coffee and hot chocolate for the riders and the volunteers. PORT-A-SAN in Baytown TX provided the porta-cans. Snacks, water and non-alcoholic beverages for our riders were provided by a number of supporters (the major provider being Kroger) and "rounded up" by our Food and Beverage Co-ordinators, David and Cathy Southwell. Lunch was served to the riders at Lake Houston Marina in Huffman TX by CATFISH ON WHEELS .
Our sincere appreciation to The Red Knights' road captains 
that served as escorts for the Ride. All the riders were praising the work that they did. (See picture to the right.)
We also wish to thank Conroe Police Department, Cleveland Police Department, Dayton Police Department and Harris County Sheriff's Department for the fantastic job they did in taking the Ride safely through their journey.

We had a record setting auction held at the Marina. Ms. Peggy Toner of Musk
ogee OK has donated a quilt every year for our auction. This year she donated a wall hanging and a matching quilt and requested that each item be auction separately. The winning bid for the wall hanging was $300. The winning bidder later announced that they wanted to raise the donation to $1000. (See picture to the left.) The winning bid for the quilt was $2000. (See picture to the right.) Ms. Toner has already started the quilt for next year. This was an awesome auction.
Gina Harper won the certificate for the "Cruise for Two" donated by MONTGOMERY PINES APARTMENT HOMES in Porter TX. Carmen Ford won the certificates for roundtrip travel for two donated by AIRTRAN AIRWAYS. This is the first time that we've had two items and, therefore, two winners!! Congratulations to these winners!!!

OUR 2007 "RIDE FOR THE BEAR" charity motorcycle ride took place on Saturday April 14. Even though the weather cooperated to the extent that it did NOT rain, it was cold and windy. That didn't stop 90 bikes from participating. We had a total of 100 bikes registered with 142 total riders. What a great time was had by all. Our sincere appreciation to those riders and to our volunteers for all they did to make this year's ride a success.
We wish to say "Thank You" to our escorts. Robert Cook is with the Liberty County Sheriff's Department and was assisted by the Road Captains from The Red Knights. Some of our riders have already expressed their gratitude for their leadership and assistance in making this a safe ride.

Our "Ride For the Bear 2006" on March 25 was a huge success. The L.O.S. Rail Riders joined us as a Silver Teddy Bear sponsor. This was our first Silver Teddy Bear for the ride. Chick-fil-A (Deerbrook Mall, Humble TX) joined us for the first year and provided lunch for the riders and the volunteers. We had a total of 91 motorcycles and most of these were carrying passengers. The net proceeds from the ride and the auction managed to reach approx. $5,000. We thank all who participated and look forward to seeing you all for our ride in 2007.
