MUMS is a national Parent-to-Parent organization for parents or care providers of a child with any disability, rare disorder, chromosomal abnormality or health condition.  MUMS' mission is to provide support to parents in the form of a networking system that matches them with other parents whose children have the same or similar condition.  Families provide each other with emotional support and they don't have to feel so alone when they have each other to reach out to in time of need.  Visit their website for additional information.

Texas' Special Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families with special needs children with developmental, educational, and/or emotional needs.  Individual consultations, seminars, email consultations, supporting church special needs ministries, public school advocacy for IEP development, and home school curriculum support are a few of the areas in which they serve families who are where they have been.

Texas Department of State Health Services now has a program called Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN).  This program provides services to children with extraordinary medical needs, disabilities, and chronic health conditions.  The health care benefits include payments for medical care, family support services, and related services not covered by Medicaid, CHIP, private insurance, or other "third party payors."  If you are a resident of Texas, visit this site to see if they can provide the assistance you need.  Be aware that there may be a waiting list for health care benefits.  If you are outside the state of Texas, check your State Health Services to see what might be available.
