On Friday April 24, Porter Wal*Mart Supercenter presented The Lindsay Foundation with $1000.  The picture to the left shows Laurie McMillan Hammond accepting the check from Wayne Christian.  Once again, Wal*Mart has come through for the kids!

***********************************************************************************

On Thursday March 19, the following statement was issued by our Founder and President, Laurie McMillan-Hammond:

"We all know what the economy is like right now.  We are feeling the “pinch”
like everyone else.  Unfortunately, when you have a child with special needs,
you can’t put treatments, therapies, medications, etc. on hold until the
economy picks up again.  Those needs continue, and because they do, we
continue to receive applications from all over the United States from parents
seeking some relief."

***********************************************************************************

On Wednesday July 30, we received a community grant in the amount of $1,000 from Wal*Mart Distribution Center in New Caney Texas.  Wal*Mart continues to be involved with the support of the Foundation and we are sincerely appreciative of all that they do for us.

Right, Laurie (McMillan) Hammond is shown presenting a recognition plaque to Wal*Mart.  Our way of saying "Thank you!"

***********************************************************************************

Our sincere appreciation to Daniel Anders and American Business Machines Inc. in Houston for upgrading our copier.  It does everything and really cuts down on a lot of work for our volunteers.

Left, Laurie (McMillan) Hammond presents Mr. Anders with a recognition plaque.  Thanks again, Mr. Anders.

The Ride for the Bear 2008 broke all records for our fundraisers.  We made approximately $12,000 that we can use for our kids.  Right off the top, we were able to provide a $4,000 wheelchair that was needed.  Our thanks to all of our contributors and participants for making this ride such as success.

************************************************************************************

Wow!!  We have two raffle items for this year's Ride for the Bear.  MONTGOMERY PINES APARTMENT HOMES  in Porter TX donated a certificate for a Cruise for Two to Mexico, the Bahamas or the Western Caribbean.  We printed some raffle tickets and handed them out to our volunteers.  Then, AirTrans Airways donated certificates for roundtrip travel for two.  When we printed our next batch of tickets, it had two items on it.  We will draw 2 winners...one for the cruise and one for the air travel.  You can get in on the drawing by making a SPECIAL DONATION.

************************************************************************************

You can make The Lindsay Foundation a big winner by participating in our BIRDIES FOR CHARITY competition.  Charity begins on the golf course at the Shell Houston Open that takes place March 31 thru April 6 at Redstone Golf Club in Humble TX.  Make a PLEDGE based on the number of birdies you believe will be made during the Open.  You can pledge a one-time donation of minimum $20 and you get 1 guess for each $20 pledged.  You get 1 guess for each $.01 per birdie pledged.  The guess closest to being correct will win a New 2008 Buick Enclave. (Ties, prizes determined by random drawing.)

Provide us with the amount of your pledge, your full name, address, e-mail address and phone.  We submit the information to the Houston Golf Association.  Following the Open and the determination of the winner, they will bill you and you will pay directly to them.  Once all pledges have been collected, they send The Lindsay Foundation a check for the FULL AMOUNT OF THE PLEDGES.

If you have other questions, please e-mail us at helpforachild@lindsayfoundation.org.

************************************************************************************

Notice for our Kroger shoppers that have a Foundation Share Card.  The Share Card will be discontinued effective March 25.  Kroger is designing a program that will link your charity (that's Us) with your Plus Card, thus eliminating the need to carry and to scan both.  We will provide further details as we receive them.  Thank you for your past support and we look forward to your support in the future.

Thursday October 18 will be our second in-house fundraiser by JOE'S CRAB SHACK on Hwy. 59 in Humble TX.  We will be there from 5:PM to 10:PM.   Come out and join us.  Joe's will issue a check to The Lindsay Foundation for 10% of your dinner ticket.  Make sure you ask one of us for a flyer.  If you are hearing this for the first time, we apologize.  We have been so busy with the golf tournament that other items on the agenda have missed getting sufficient attention.

************************************************************************************

For those of you residing in the Houston TX tv viewing area, watch for Laurie and Helen to appear on the Channel 2 News program on Sunday September 2 at 6:30 a.m.  We know it's early but let's support them as they get the word out for the Foundation and for our upcoming golf tournament.  (And, you get to see what they look like!)

************************************************************************************

This has been an exciting month!!!  Other than the applications from Texas (where we are located), we have also received applications from Alabama, California, Connecticut and New York.  And more exciting than that, we have been able to approve Alabama, California and Connecticut!  (New York is still in the application review process.)  At this time, our funding comes mostly from two Foundation sponsored fundraisers each year.  If you read below, you will see other sources of our funding.  However, all of this funding is from Texas.  We cannot go to each state and do fundraisers but we can accept donations.  If you would like to make a donation, you can send a check or money order to The Lindsay Foundation, P.O. Box 1073, Huffman TX  77336 OR click here and you can use your credit card to make an automatic donation.  There are children in every state that need assistance and as long as our funding comes in we will be here to help.

************************************************************************************

Wow!!!  Here we are in the midst of preparing for our annual charity golf tournament and we get more good news.  On September 15, we will meet with a group in DeRidder LA to form our first volunteer group in that area.  Thanks to Lisa Maricle who has worked really hard to make this happen.  If you are in the area and would like to join us to learn about the Foundation, just contact us and we will give you the information that you need.  Thanks again to Lisa.

UPDATE:  On September 18, we mailed our "Application for Authority" to the Secretary of State of Louisiana.  We don't anticipate any problems.  Our group in Louisiana grew when two WalMart employees attended the above meeting and signed up to help us.  We added two more besides these two ladies.  Keep up the good work, Lisa (and Louisiana).

************************************************************************************

On the evening of June 28, a group of supporters met at Joe's Crab Shack in Humble TX to do what we do best....eat!  Joe's held an in-house fundraiser for the Foundation.  We earned 10% of each ticket when the guest gave them a printed flyer.  We had fun and it was an opportunity to just visit.

We have plans to do this again in October.  Each of our golfers can look for a flyer in his or her goody bag and you can watch for us.  We'll be handing them out to everyone.  The more people that go to eat, the more money we raise to help the kids.  Watch for more information as we get closer.  AND  a big thanks to Joe's Crab Shack.

************************************************************************************

Also in May, Cathy Southwell (one of our volunteers) and her future daughter-in-law, Mandy Painter, had a big Tupperware party and the monetary proceeds from the sale of the product was awarded to the Foundation.  Our thanks to these two ladies for their fundraiser.

The Red Knights Flashover 2006 benefit was a huge success.  The weather tried to dampen things but the spirits of motorcycle riders, volunteers and guests were not dampened.  Attendance may have been down but enthusiasm was not.  Our thanks to all who participated in the organization of this benefit, the band, the riders that came out in spite of the rain, and the generosity of those participating in both the silent auction and the live auction.  And the barbecue was great!

We final numbers for the benefit resulted in a donation of approximately $6200.  The winners of the raffle drawings are:  Robert Riley from Hawgs of Texas Rallys was 1st place winner of the Harley Davidson Electra Glide.  Bucky Hawthorne was 2nd place winner of the Remington Model 700 rifle and Connie Walker was 3rd place winner of the Magnavox 15" tv.  Congratulations to all the winners and condolences to those who tried but didn't win.
